178 CCTV cameras installed in Chandigarh for electronic surveillance

Installation of 178 close circuit television (CCTV) cameras in Chandigarh. It has has finally come under electronic surveillance. Installed at 20 intersections and three busy markets in the city, these cameras have become operational.
Costing Rs 4.47 crore, these cameras are monitored from three control rooms.
The project to throw a blanket of CCTV surveillance over Chandigarh was started last year. Barring a few locations, the project has been completed.

Twenty-five cameras (14 fixed and 11 Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras) have been fixed at the Sector-17 Plaza, which houses some key government offices.

Thirteen cameras (six static and seven PTZ cameras) have been installed in the Sector-22 market. These are monitored from the Sector-17 police station, where a control room has been set up.

Fourteen cameras (six static and eight PTZ cameras) have been installed in the Sector-35 market. These are monitored from the Sector-36 police station.

The cameras installed at the 20 intersections — five each — are monitored from the Police Lines in Sector 29.
