CHB launches flats in Sector 51

The brochures for the much-awaited Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) general category housing scheme in Sector 51 will be out in first week of December and the entire construction and allotment process will be completed in a record period to make it the fastest scheme so far.

In a board of directors meeting, it has been decided to hold the draw of lots in January and the construction work will kick off in March. The 160 flats complete in all respects will be handed over by June 2012. The flats will come with modular kitchens, besides solar heating and rainwater harvesting system.

Each flat will cost Rs 50 lakh and the cost of the brochure has been hiked to Rs 1,000 by the cash-strapped board, Singh said. The layout plan for the project had already been approved and the board does not need to wait for environment clearance from the Government of India, he added.

The board will also list half-a-dozen banks for providing loan. It is after a gap of three years that CHB has launched a general category scheme and the change in conditions is likely to come as a bolt from the blue for the city residents who aspire to own an affordable house.
