HUDA: protest against Land aquisition for MIT, Ambala, Pajokhara

Farmers of 12 villages of the Khuda area on the periphery of Ambala Cantonment are up in arms against the move of the Haryana government to acquire land for the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in this belt. Hundreds of farmers resolved to oppose the acquisition of their land by the state government.

HUDA was planning to acquire around 1,000 acres of agricultural land falling in Khuda, Dukheri, Salarheri, Brahman Majra, Shahpur, Sambalkha,Munglai and Buhawa villages for urban development.

The villagers alleged that the move came close on the heels of the Panjokhra land acquisition proposal in the name of Modern Industrial Town (MIT), which had faced a stiff opposition from the farmers of villages in that area.Farmers of Ambala district have been protesting against rapid urbanisation, which had been taking a toll on the productive agricultural land. This was driving farmers to resort to agitational means.

In a related development, Zamin Bachao Samiti of Panjokhra staged a dharna outside the office of Ambala Sub-Divisional Magistrate and later submitted a memorandum seeking information on the Haryana government’s stand on the land acquisition for the MIT and the scrapping of Section 4 notice.

Farmers from 13 villages of the Panjokhra area also joined the protest against the acquisition of 1,852 acres of agriculture land for setting up the township.
