Travelling by road from Chandigarh to Baddi will soon take half the time it requires right now. Union ministry of environment and forests has given Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) the green signal for widening the Mullanpur-Siswan T-point road, which at present is a poor alternative to the Chandigarh-Baddi road that passes via Panchkula.
Punjab government had given its go-ahead to the project, to be handled by a private real estate developer, six months ago. However, as the environmental clearance was not there, the work was hanging fire.It gave approval to change alignment of the existing road.
Certain areas falling in the road's new alignment were previously locked under Punjab Land Preservation Act, 1900, and were delisted late last year. The reforestation plans for affected areas has also been given approval.
