The construction of the underpass project of the Chandigarh Administration will be allotted soon.The three agencies have been shortlisted. They are GMC Products, S P Singla Constructions and Tantia Construction.
The work of digital topographical survey, utility mapping (location of underground services), geo-technical investigation and traffic survey work has already been completed.Work for the underpasses is to be allotted in design-build-maintain model and the agency hired for the project. It would have to plan ways to avoid problems, as water logging, poor lighting inside subways. It will also maintain them for five years.In the first phase three underpasses will be constructed at Matka Chowk, Press Chowk and Transport Chowk, all stretches prone to frequent traffic bottlenecks due to the increasing vehicle load.
