CHB sector 51-A sceme challenged in High Court

Sector 51-A scheme of Chandigarh Housing Board launched on 13 Dec 2010 to to allot 160 flats has come under the Punjab and Haryana High Court scanner, with an advocate challenging the clause whereby an applicant can submit unlimited number of applications as it would diminish the chances of allotment of the flats to the “needy persons” belonging to the general public. It would also encourage and regularise speculative business.

The exorbitant rates charged by the CHB too have been brought to the high court’s notice. The petitioner said a two-bedroom flat in Sector 63 was priced at Rs 29.14 lakh in 2008, while the Sector 51-A flat was costing more than Rs 50 lakh, though it was smaller in size.

The case will now come up for further hearing on January 4.
