New CHB scheme: More flats for UT Employees

Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) will construct more flats under the UT employees scheme by inviting fresh applications. For this, it has sought sanction to use 250 acres of land from the finance department.

As per the plan, the Board plans to open the scheme again for about a week so that more UT employees could try their luck. The Board has also proposed to include the unsuccessful Group B applicants of the UT employees housing scheme, who have been protesting ever since the draw was held a day before Diwali. Their claim is that by including Group C candidates in their category, the Board had killed their chances of making it to the final list.

"By including 70 acres of land in the scheme, all the applicants can be accommodated. 90 acres of land in Sector 53, 54 and 55 is laying allotted to CHB since year 2008 to formulate some housing scheme, but till date the land is un-allotted/without any scheme. It is requested that the requisite land from this chunk may be allotted to the employees scheme to accommodate all UT employees," demanded the Group C applicants.

They have also demanded that status quo be maintained till some decision is taken by the authorities on their request and the earnest money should not be refunded till any decision. "The dispute is over CHB allowing candidates in C category to apply for the 168 flats in category B as well, following a revision in their pay scales. This resulted in increase of applicants from 328 to 708, leading to reduced probability of making it to the list of winning candidates," add the protesting applicants.
