Mohali: GMADA to regularize existing religious encroachments

With a view to taking a one-time measure to regularize existing religious encroachments on Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) land, the state government on Tuesday decided to charge Rs 6 per square yard per year on land up to 1,000 square yards and Rs 12 per square yard per year on land above 1,000 square yards.
The structures, which have mushroomed in the area over the last decade or so, have encroached over 25 acres of prime land at various places. These are located all over the city with four religious structures in Phase I, three in Phase 3B1, five places of worship in Phase VI and three unauthorized structures each in Phase IX and sectors 70 and 71.
