Footbridges in the shopping streets of Mohali

shopping in downtown Mohali is set to become easier for pedestrians. Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is gearing up to construct footbridges in the shopping streets of phases-3B1, 3A, IV and V. The Punjab government has already sanctioned Rs 2 crore for the project.

At present, the shopping areas are chock-a-block with haphazardly parked vehicles and vehicles being parked on the roadside. This not only restricts vehicular movement on the main road but leaves even lesser space for pedestrians to walk.

Welcoming the move, house owners welfare association president Albel Singh Syan said, ''These footbridges were a consistent demand for the past couple of years.''
