Medicity project in Mullanpur

The proposed Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) land acquisition for its Medicity project in Mullanpur has run into rough weather with residents, land owners and commercial entity owners as they are all up in arms against the proposed move by the state-owned real estate developer. According to the Mullanpur master plan, an area of 125 acres in village Ferozepur Bangar was demarcated for Medicity project as well as a health village. For that purpose, GMADA had issued a section (4) notification on April 6 to land owners that they had until May 5 to file any objection to the proposed acquisition. Residents allege that the area of the Medicity has been increased to 158 acres, which is not mentioned in the master plan.

A resident of village Ferozepur Bangar, ''The state government is bent upon throwing us out of our homes. The acquisition would be made at the rate of Rs 1.50 crore per acre and we would be paid money in two years time at present-day rates.''
